Preparing for Eye Surgery: Medical, Practical & Home Checklists

01

Medical preparation

Share your medicines, allergies and health conditions, including diabetes and blood-pressure treatment. Do not stop or change a medicine unless the prescribing or surgical team instructs you. Complete only the tests and fasting steps specified for your procedure.

02

Practical preparation

Arrange a companion for the day, transport home (no driving), a few days of easy meals, and time off as advised.

03

Home preparation

Set up a clean recovery spot, organise your eye-drop schedule on paper or phone, remove tripping hazards, and plan help with screens and dust-heavy tasks.

Questions, answered

What people often ask.

These answers are a starting point. Your clinician can advise based on an examination.

Can I eat before eye surgery?

Instructions depend on the procedure and anaesthesia plan. Confirm with your treating team; do not assume fasting is or is not required.

When can I bathe after eye surgery?

Usually face-washing is restricted for some days; showering below the neck is often allowed early. Your discharge sheet specifies.
